25.07.2010 The emirate’s power provider has called on customers to cut consumption to avoid further power cuts - despite the fact hundreds of residents have been left without water and electricity for days.
Buck passed on power outages
In its first public statement since the latest round of problems which saw households plunged into darkness, Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) said it was keen to provide customers with better service but called on them to reduce usage.
Government news agency WAM issued a statement on SEWA’s behalf. It said: “SEWA has stressed that it is keen to provide better services to consumers. It attributed the power cuts to a sudden glitch in a natural gas pipeline, which feeds the main power station, prompting SEWA to deal with the emergency by cutting the power.” It added: “It [SEWA] reiterated that the utmost efforts would be exerted to prevent repetition of the glitch, calling on consumers to guide power consumption to avert such sudden power cuts.”
